The Gathering

Silently the mist flows down the quite streets, the darkness oppressive in the haunting gloom. My footsteps echo strangely, as if someone is following in my shadow.

I enter the plaza through a veil of mist, tendrils cling to my clothing as if the mist is reluctant to let go. A cold light illuminates the plaza, the only sound a faint crack of discharged static energy that slowly becomes louder.

Calmly I wait, hands held loose at my side for the others to arrive. To my left the mist billows as if a giant hand is pushing against it, tearing as a figure emerges.
The aura of virulent power that radiate from the man causes the hair on my neck to rise.

Show off I think to myself, with a hint of a smile.

The scuff of a boot sole against the paving is the only warning I get to the arrival of the next guest. Like a ghost the the shadow in the mist is revealed, tall, lithe and deadly.

" All this lurking and skulking around is so uncivilized."

The high pitched voice shatters the silence, only to dissipate in the oppressive plaza.

" Come now, we are all betrayed and all betrayers until we find the ones responsible" squeals the voice.

" We know who is responsible Lucas. That is why we are here."
